Ron Evans Golf Day
Ron Evans Golf Day 2007
Ron Evans was an outstanding footballer, administrator and business man. He was a person of immense integrity and charisma. He was involved in Australian Rules Football as a player and administrator for more than 50 years. Ron was also a Monash Alumnus. He passed away in March 2007 after a battle cancer.
As well as his love of football, Ron was a passionate golfer and a member at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club where he and members of his family played regularly.
On 26 November, 2007 more than 120 people gathered at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club for the inaugural Ron Evans Golf Day to honour Ron and to raise important funds for cancer research.
A great day’s golfing concluded with a dinner and auction. Chair of the Ron Evans Golf Day Committee, David Evans, thanked the golfers and the event sponsors for their part in making the inaugural event a great success. He concluded by announcing that the event had raised $125,000 for cancer research at the Institute.
Professor Bryan Williams, Institute Director, announced the establishment of the Ron Evans Fellowship, which will be funded by the annual Golf Day. The Fellowship will be offered, on a competitive basis, to a suitably qualified University graduate to pursue research at MIMR’s Centre for Cancer Research (link to page on CCR. )
MIMR would like to thank all the participating players, organisations and sponsors for making the inaugural Ron Evans Golf Day a great success.
